We May Have Forgotten to Mention...

Hi everyone,

We're really hoping that you will have caught the Wrington website updates we've been posting, including the one inviting anyone to come and hear us give a brief talk at Wrington Chapel this Sunday 2nd September (tomorrow!) during the usual 9.30 service. Everyone is more than welcome :)

Apologies for the late notice, but supposing you are a casual follower of us who enjoys using the internet late at night, yet enjoys getting up early on Sunday mornings, you may be able to come, and you would be very welcome. We'll be showing some of our many photos of the trip, as well as sharing briefly what we made of the experience, thanks to all your help.

We hope to see you there!

We're Home...

Namaste everyone!

You'll be relieved to know that we're all finally home safely after nightmare delays and other travel issues both ways, but we've come back with the most amazing experiences and memories to share. We hope you all caught some of our updates on the Wrington website (http://www.wrington.net/archive/2012/georgiemarthajas.htm) while we were in Calcutta, but we'll give some more detailed reports of what happened soon. We've also got lots of videos and thousands of photos we want to share with you, so look out for those!

Thank you all so much for all your help in getting us there, we had such a brilliant, unforgettable time!

India Here We Come...

Unbelievably, the moment has finally arrived, and the three of us are off to Calcutta, India tomorrow! We fly from Heathrow to Dubai (7 hours) and then on from there to Calcutta (or Kolkata, as it’s known locally!) via a five hour flight and will be doing the same in reverse on the 14th August. Any last minute ideas for travel entertainment would be much appreciated…

The bags are packed, the jabs injected and the visas finally arrived (Halleluia!), but one thing that we must still do before we leave is thank you all for your continued support, financially, physically, spiritually and emotionally. We honestly could not have done this without you all, as being faced with the task of raising £3,000 at the beginning of this year (the final year of our A levels, no less!) was certainly not an easy one, nor a challenge we took lightly, but we are so thrilled to announce that because of your amazing generosity, creativity (so many brilliant fundraising ideas!) and dedication, we have succeeded in reaching that target.

The fundraising itself has been such a fun process, and we honestly can’t believe the response we have had, but knowing how much support we’ve received will only make the trip itself more fantastic and inspiring. We can’t wait!

Please do continue to pray for us for these next few weeks, and while the internet connection in Calcutta is reportedly not the best (!) we will try to keep you all informed of our progress, and plan to share all our stories and experiences properly with everyone when we get back. So, once again, thank you very much, and…wish us all the best!

Lots of love,
Georgie, Martha and Jas x

Successful Quiz Evening!

We'd just like to say a massive thank you to everyone who came out to support our Quiz Night at Wrington Chapel  on Friday evening. We hope you had a great time eating homemade lasagne and lots of delicious puddings, answering tricky questions and meeting some new faces. An extra-special well done to our winning team, 'The Latecomers', who successfully trumped the runners-up in a tie breaker question about the distance between Wrington and Calcutta. Any guesses? :)

Our thanks must also go to the wonderful people who supported us tirelessly on the evening, especially our 'Kitchen Staff' and of course to Quizmaster Steve and his glamorous assistant Caroline, as well as all you lovely people who donated lasagnes, raffle prizes or puddings.

We managed to raise an incredible £522.54, and we couldn't have done it without you!

Thank you so much again,

Georgie, Martha and Jas x

P.S. Our final event will be in collaboration with Wrington Youth Drama again, on Tuesday 29th May. More details to follow :)

Fantastic Fundraising Concert! :)

We are so thrilled to announce that our Fundraising Concert at Wrington Chapel on Monday evening went really well, and all the acts were absolutely amazing.

We kicked the event off with the Year 13 Band, who named themselves ‘The Checkers’ for the evening. They played five songs from their impressive repertoire, including ‘Mercy’ and ‘Valerie’, to thunderous applause.

Next up was singer/songwriter Maisie Wallace, who played three of her own songs beautifully, including ‘The Old Sea Captain’, which she won the Clifton High School talent show with in 2011.

Following her was Sam Dobinson, who performed a lovely rendition of Newton Faulkner’s ‘I’m Not Giving Up Yet’.

Our very own Martha then took to the stage managing to sing ‘The One That Got Away’ beautifully whilst simultaneously playing the piano in an emotional performance. What a great multi tasker!

Charlie Lloyd then played the guitar and sang to four lovely songs in a mind-blowing debut live performance, with a little audience participation of course! Thank you for being brave enough to “Do this!” and share your incredible gift with us J

Luke and April then closed the first half of the concert, playing guitar and singing to two moving songs.

We then had a really fun interval, filled with drinks, chatting and lots of amazing cake. Thank you so much to everyone who baked them for us, we love you all J

After the interval, Martha treated us to another performance, this time singing the hilarious ‘I Cain’t Say No’ from the musical Oklahoma! which certainly put the audience in a bright mood!

Continuing with the musical theme, husband and wife duo (cute!) David and Catherine Tisdall then took to the stage for a really powerful piano/singing performance.

Martha’s dad John then sang ‘Stars’ from the musical Les Misérables and ‘One Day Like This’, and had the enthusiastic audience all clapping along by the time he’d finished.

Emily, Dael, Chris and Corin were our final act, performing ‘Hey Ya’ and the beautifully moving ‘Fix You’ by Coldplay, which even included the use of a mandolin. How exciting! J

However, The Checkers then played a fabulous encore of Stevie Wonder’s ‘Superstition’ to see the audience out safely, after hopefully enjoying a really fun evening.

Well done and thanks to everyone who performed, you were all incredible! Also, we’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who helped us set up and run the evening, and of course, to everyone who came to support us. You were a brilliant audience!

Thanks for reading. We’ll let you know how much we’ve raised as soon as possible J

Hello world :)

Hello everyone :)

Thank you so much for checking out our blog! We are Jas, Georgie and Martha, three teenage girls who are planning to go to India in July 2012 to work with the charity Good News Children Education Mission (http://www.gncem.org/).

We will be helping in the slums, at the charity's baby care centres, in their mobile schools, homes and churches, and we can't wait to go!

However, to do so, we need to raise £3,000. And that's where we could really use your help...

We've got two big fundraising events coming up, so please make sure you come along and support us!

We will be holding a Table-Top Sale on Saturday 4th February at Wrington Scout Hall from 9.00am – 12.30pm. Come and find lots of bargains, or maybe sell some unwanted Christmas presents etc, to get ready for that spring clear out! There will also be crafts, refreshments and hair braiding available :)

On Monday 20th February we will be holding a Fundraising Concert at Wrington Chapel, again with all proceeds helping to fund our trip. Doors open at 7.00pm, Tickets are £5 each, £3 for under 12’s. Contact one of us to get yours :) There will also be a limited number available on the door!

Thank you :)
